Novak

Photobucket

If you are new to the charms of my friend Max, you must know that he loves Coldplay, Thirteen Senses, Keane, a true-blue Oasis dan and not to forget, Take That fan as well. He is the only last surviving Charlatans fan that I know personally. Who the fuck listens to the Charlantans anymore? Well, Max does.

We did an EP for him called The Novak EP which was a birthday gift for a lady. In case you are not one of the 21 peeps who have already downloaded it, get it here.

Do not worry, the above photo is not part of the package.

The Goods trailer

Looks pretty funny.

You know what, Max...

With the extremely great help of Firdaus whose photo blog you can check out here, we did a photoshoot to submit an official photo for our upcoming show at the Esplanade Concourse in August.

Max followed us and became the default choreographer for us. So, instead of showing us in action, here are some shots of him doing the poses to demonstrate what we should be doing in the shot.

Max 1

Max: "Dude, you know what? Let's try to channel your inner Westlife and Take That. Think Gary Barlow man!" I'm not joking; he said that.

And look carefully, you can see the $2 purple bill in his left breast pocket.

Max 3

Max: "Follow me, guys. Do the Blue Steel like Ben Stiller in Zoolander!"

Max 2

Max: "Ehhhh, you know what, guys?"

Us: "What?"

Max: "You should do a pensive shot where you look away, deep in thought. Chicks dig that kinda stuff..."

This is a candid shot. Well, Max feels very right at home. Hmmm...

And this is my personal favourite. The weather was insane on Sunday noon. Firdaus was a trooper and followed us around. Well, all of us were drenched to our undies since we were wearing suits and all. And our make-up (yes, we were dolled up. Weiyuan was gunning for the Robert Pattinson vampire look in Twilight) were running down our faces.

Even though Max was not in most of the shots, he was drenched to the bone in perspiration. His white shirt was particularly thin and his extremely brown nipple was peeping through the wet shirt.

So this was us doing a tribute to his right brown nipple and him striking a pose for a GQ cover.

Thanks, Max, Firdaus and Fiona (Yeeyong's missus who did the make-up). It was fun.

John Mayer Has A TV Show

Robin has been telling me about this for quite a while. Just saw a friend putting up the links on Facebook. Pretty funny stuff.

Well, the guy's a superb blues guitarist and of course, he's definitely right about Jennifer Love Hewitt's body being a wonderland... Bastard.

The Invention Of Lying

In an alternate reality, lying -- even the concept of a lie -- does not even exist. Everyone -- from politicians to advertisers to the man and woman on the street -- speaks the truth and nothing but the truth with no thought of the consequences. But when a down-on-his-luck loser named Mark suddenly develops the ability to lie, he finds that dishonesty has its rewards. In a world where every word is assumed to be the absolute truth, Mark easily lies his way to fame and fortune. But lies have a way of spreading, and Mark begins to realize that things are getting a little out of control when some of his tallest tales are being taken as, well, gospel. With the entire world now hanging on his every word, there is only one thing Mark has not been able to lie his way into: the heart of the woman he loves.

It stars Ricky Gervais. Enuff said.

Daybreakers trailer

There are too many vampire-related shows out there. But this one looks pretty decent.

Wilco - You Never Know (live)

I love Wilco. This is damn OTT! The last tour saw them touring as a 6-piece band. Now, they are up to a 8-piece unit?

Holy crap!

Can someone bring them into Singapore? The KittyWus? Fuck Kings Of Convenience lah!

Phoenix - 1901 (live)

I'm not a fan but if you are, this might do it for you.

Unpopular-radio

You can download or stream last night's show here.

Yup. Thanks to those who listened live.

Lily Allen - Fuck You

Her sophomore album It's Not Me, It's You is alright (ahem) at best. Some friends really love it. But you can't deny all the videos which have been released are fantastic. Apparently, the song bashes George W. Bush and his homophobia (besides his glaring lack of foreign diplomacy).

Yeah, the song's kinda cute but Pet Shop Boys did it better with "I'm With Stupid" (sans vulgarity as well).

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen clip

Some of you guys might have already caught the premiere of the show. Well, check out The Smiths' Meat Is Murder poster in the background. Yeah!

Photoshoot

Hahaha, I love my boys. We are trying to arrange a photoshoot for the new Lard Brothers line-up. Which is based on the current theme is old school 3-D specs. We have difficulties hunting them down. So Yeeyong was tasked to make them. As with the job brief by Weiyuan who said, "I want it to look like we are appearing on the cover of GQ!"

-_-"

Yeeyong is a sport. He made the specs and sent us some test shots. I'm not too sure if I am even allowed to put these pictures up. But it tickles my fishballs cause the last time I've seen him so formal was at his wedding.

Firdaus will be helping us out with the photoshoot. Was really sweet of him to take us up on bribes of nasi padang. Thanks, dude!

Tim Burton's "Alice In Wonderland"

Yup, that's Johnny Depp in the role of the Mad Hatter. Check out some of the concept art for the upcoming Tim Burton movie here. Helena Bonham Carter looks in her own element which is "weird". Anne Hathaway still looks so good that I can eat her. Hurhurhur.

Unpopular Music radio

I'll be joining Charanpal aka DJ Tan(g)kap Accent on his weekly Monday night show 'Black Tan(g)kap Black Show' tonight 22 June 2009. I should be playing some music which is under the Aging Youth label.

I've absolutely no idea what to expect. Well, I pitched to him to let me and Weiyuan do a segment to promote the Lard Brothers' remix album which we have renamed The Super Lard Bros OST. Complete with a concept for the album sleeve. We are meeting a friend who is helping us design the cover and a bit of the interior artwork on Wednesday.

In any case, I really need to get that stuff outta the system. We are done with the remixes and it's up to Weiyuan to mix it down. We should be able to put it up for free download on National Day again.

Anyway, Charanpal asked me to join him for his last show ever. He's flying over to Australia to do his Ph.D. in a week's time. The Lard Brothers should be appearing on the internet streaming radio station(?) towards the end of July.

Click here to log onto the website. Click on the 'Listen' button. The show starts at 9:45pm. If you have nothing on, just log on and hear me blabber some nonsense.

Miranda Kerr @ Pirelli 2010 calandar

Yeah, so if you like nekkid chicks, you go check out the rest of the photos here. NSFW, of course.

Zombieland trailer

This looks really good!

Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg) has made a habit of running from what scares him. Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson) doesn't have fears. If he did, he'd kick their ever-living ass. In a world overrun by zombies, these two are perfectly evolved survivors. But now, they're about to stare down the most terrifying prospect of all: each other.

Google Search Options

Fuckers. It's really no wonder their stock is valued that much and still climbing.

2012 trailer

Which Hollywood director blows up more shit than Michael Bay? There's only one. And he likes blowing up national institutions and landmarks.

Roland Emmerich.

He did 'Independence Day' (alien invasion), 'Godzilla' (mutant Komodo dragon invasion) and 'The Day After Tomorrow' (no invasion but the whole fuckin' earth froze over in days. Cast Emmy Possum in the show. +10 points.). He's taking on the end of days here.

Must be fun to work for him.

"Boss, where shall we blow up this time? Statue of Liberty, check. Great Wall Of China, check. The Golden Bridge, been there, done that. I know! Jesus The Redeemer in Rio de Janiro!!!"

Voila! A new movie done!

Record Club - Sunday Morning (live)

Somedays, when I wake up, I wish I were Beck Hansen.

Beck has enlisted a group of friends to form the ‘Beck & Friends Music Club’ in which they will re-record entire albums in one-day sessions and post a track a week on Beck.com.

The Record Club will be a regular meeting of various musicians to record an entire album in one day. A single album will be chosen to be covered and used as a framework, with nothing rehearsed or arranged ahead of time.

The intention is to upload one track every week from these sessions to Beck.com, as well as through the websites of those involved in the project.

The first album in the series to be re-worked is ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’.

MGMT, Devendra Banhart, Jamie Lidell and Nigel Godrich have all been enlisted so far to take part in the club.

That's 'Sunday Morning' from Velvet Underground & Nico's debut album.

Street Sweeper Social Club - Paper Planes (live)

Yup, that's a M.I.A. cover.

Thirst trailer

A beloved and devoted priest (Song Kang-ho) from a small town volunteers for a medical experiment which fails and turns him into a vampire. Physical and psychological changes lead to his affair with a wife of his childhood friend who is repressed and tired of her mundane life. The one-time priest falls deeper in despair and depravity. As things turns for worse, he struggles to maintain what's left of his humanity.

Thirst is directed by South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, of Joint Security Area, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Oldboy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, and I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK previously. The screenplay was co-written by Park Chan-wook and his writing partner Jeong Seo-Gyeong. This first hit theaters in Korea back in April. Focus Features will debut Thirst in limited release starting on July 31st.

I love Park Chan-wook's JSA which was one of the best shows I've ever watched. Absolutely touching show about a country torn apart. Lee Byung-Hun (who was excellent in the show and is unfortunately starring as Storm Shadow in Stephen Sommers' 'G.I. Joe: Rise Of Cobra') and Song Kang-ho were in it. Song kicked major ass in the monster flick 'The Host'. If you haven't watched it before, you owe it to yourself to see it.

Virtuality clip

Battlestar Galactica's showrunner Ron Moore's new show 'Virtuality'. Hopefully, it's half as good as BSG.

Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks (live)

I know Grace is super into them these days. I'm starting to really like their latest album Veckatimest. It's chockful of Beach Boys vocal harmonies, weird ass instrumentations and poly-rhythms. Pretty kick-ass!

The GayClic Collab Against Homophobia

A french video response from http://www.GayClic.com readers to the Stevie Bee Bishop's "Big Fat Gay Collab". Posted on the International Day Against Homophobia, 2009, May 17th. Music is Lily Allen's 'Fuck You'.

With this video, Lily Allen has probably transcended to the next level of being a pop celebrity. She will be instantly recognised by her first name from now onwards and join the ranks of gay icons such as Madonna, Kylie and Britney.

Antony And The Johnsons - Crazy in Love (live)

Yes, it's a Beyoncé cover done the only way Antony Hegarty can do it. Amazing!

Street Sweeper Social Club - Promenade (live)

Tom Morello's new band with Boots Riley of The Coup. The song is pretty decent.

Holy fuck!

How can someone summarize their entire guitar playing career (and reference Jimi Hendrix's guitar showmanship) in one single song?! Chris Cornell can suck it. Which probably he already has.

Placebo - Battle For The Sun (live)

I'm very impressed with their new drummer...

Placebo - For What It's Worth

The new video for the new single off their new album Battle For The Sun with their new drummer Steve Forrest. Looks like they have a new image too.

Who Lards The Lard Brothers?

A month ago, Max came in to record the song he co-wrote with us 2 years ago. It's our tribute to Pet Shop Boys. So far, we have gotten quite a few people to work on and contribute to it. For a song which is simultaneously a homage and parody, we sure are putting a lotta effort on it.

Nat and Biddy had put their touches on it. Still waiting for Jane and Simon to come in and add their bits.

Here are some pictures of Robin working on the percussion for the tune 'Silence' which Biddy sang lead on.

Pricky heat for the man with sweaty palms.

Endorsing the product as usual with that shit-eating grin. Which stuns Bryan into semi-consciousness.

Playing this box thing which he took from his home. We used to put our coffee and drinks on it before we realised it was actually a musical instrument.

He's whacking some stuff out on this cow fur-skin drum I bought from Bangkok's Chatuchak market 7 years ago. It's cute, not really good sounding. But it has furry skins! Feel the texture...

Priscilla Ahn = The Boob Song (live)

According to her Wikipedia page:

Priscilla Ahn (born Priscilla Natalie Hartranft, 1984) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. She currently resides in Los Angeles, California, although she has lived in Berks County, Pennsylvania, with her family Harry, Kay, and her brother Jacob Hartranft.

Priscilla Ahn was born in Fort Stewart, Georgia to Harry and Kay Hartranft. However, she adopted the maiden name of her mother, who is South Korean. She spent her early childhood years there and in South Korea, after which she lived in Reading, Pennsylvania for ten years. From there, she lived in Bernville, Pennsylvania and attended Tulpehocken Area High School until she left home for Los Angeles after graduation.

Yeah, so she happens to be Pan-Asian and damn cute which are my weaknesses. Sue me.

El Perro Del Mar (with Lykke Li) - Somebody's Baby (live)

I like this online video series 'Split Series' where they take indie acts out on the streets to perform them without any electricity and distorted guitars to hide behind. El Perro Del Mar is pretty good. Been checking out her stuff. This is the video to 'God Knows (You Gotta Give To Get)'.

Transformer: Revenge Of The Fallen clip

2 more weeks!!!

Besides amping up the number of alien robots, it looks like there is a greater concentration on humour and well, profanity. Heh.

500 Days Of Summer trailer

The international trailer. Which signifies my man-date with Billy for the show is approaching soon. Yay!

Check out the soundtrack they use for the trailer. The Cure's 'Boys Don't Cry'. Nice.

How To Fake An Appreciation Of Art

Tsk... art lovers.

What impresses me more is that if you click on the top right green button, you can see notes from the video. How did they do that? Hmm...

Asian Poses

Nat sent me and a few of the boys this link in a Facebook message with the title "intro you some ger...".

And the message was "for all my favourite perverts". It's a link to this website: Asian Poses.

According to the site: Simply smiling in a photo is so boring, why not strike a pose? Asians are notorious for their quirky and cute poses and this site focuses on documenting these poses. To help you recognize various poses, visual aids will be provided courtesy of popular Korean, Japanese, and Chinese models.

Well, Nat, thanks for sending the link over.

I

you too!

True Blood season 2 trailer

Wooo, it starts next Sunday. All that bloodsucking... and gratuitous titties shots. You gotta love HBO and Showtime for their use of profanity and well, mammary glands in their shows. They are usually more fun anyway.

Biddy

Biddy came down and slayed us with her rendition of our own tune 'Silence'. I think Yeeyong has no claim over the song anymore. Hahaha.

She played her African (chekkit) bone necklace (the one she's wearing) as percussion over 'Boys And Girls' and sang the outro bit which we are left with Simon and Jane coming in to do their parts.

And of course, the killer tune 'Progress For The Nation' which is our idea of a country's national anthem. Heh.

Miss Nobody trailer

No certain release date since last year. But it looks pretty interesting. More info here.

Arrggghhhh...

Pat Chng is selling a Gibson ES-339 (said model is the middle one in the picture) for S$1,800 and I'm too broke to get it!

While the body is distinctively smaller than a ES-355 (extreme right), it still looks damn good! Hopefully, it's much lighter too. This set of old bones can't carry much weight anymore.

What the hell am I talking about? I don't play guitar anymore!

F4

I was judging a band competition with Esmond of WakeMeUpMusic last night. Yeah, I'm only in it for the money. I hate band competitions. But that's another story altogether.

So he was telling me that on Thursday Vanness turned up at his church for a sermon delivered by a rather famous Taiwanese pastor. He was accompanied by the main guy from the Taiwanese hip-hop act Machi (whose name I've forgotten). They caused quite a small commotion in the church, I reckon. So I shared with him what Billy and I have discussed before.

You gotta respect the F4 guys.

And it's only with regards to whom they have dated or are dating. They sure are scoring some asses. So, this is like a countdown of the hottest asses whom they have or had been tapping.

4. Barbie Hsu

Vic Zhou's ex-squeeze. Cute, at best.

3. Lin Chiling

Jerry Yan was doing her for a while. Yeah, you gotta love a chick who has nicknames for her breasts. She calls them her "咪咪" or "mimi" in English. I wonder if that's a collective noun like sheep and fish or she has separate names for the left and right one.

2. Kelly Lin

The most idiotic-looking one of them, Ken Chu gets this piece of ass?! It's an unfair world... Kelly Lin is really hot, just not famous. An ex-H.A.I.R. for this nonsensical blog.

1. Vivian Hsu

Vanness Wu used to date her or something. I will tap that for an indefinite amount of time. Fuck, yeah. I will even bring her home to see my mum. Just that Mummy cannot know that she used to do some Category 3 stuff. Other than that, we should be just peachy.

Chic - Good Times (live)

I used to be able to play this song. Sugarhill Gang sampled the bass for their 'Rapper's Delight' which is the world's first rap tune ever recorded. Check that out here.

The Great Spy Experiment & Stomping Ground - Generator (live)

Missed it on TV. It sounds more intense towards the end.

My Grandmother Can Remix Better Than You, Fatboy!

We still have no album cover (we should be working on it soon) or the final track listing for The Lard Brothers' remix album which is titled My Grandmother Can Remix Better Than You, Fatboy!. It should have around 9 to 10 tracks, depending on when Adlin is going to post me the rest of the stems for Like Silver. Goddammit, just use YouSendIt, dude!!!

The remix album is just the 2 of us first.

So far, this is what we got. Well, for those who gives a rat's ass, to begin with. It's almost done, actually.

1) My Grandmother Can Remix Better Than You, Fatboy!
2) Lunarin – Ariel
3) The Great Spy Experiment – Flow
4) You And Whose Army? – Misplaced
5) I / D – Hot Girl
6) Breakbeat Theory – Serial Killers
7) DJ KoFlow – Bank St.
8) Like Silver – Werewolves
9) Amberhaze – Crush
10) Camra – White Hearts Lane

See you in August.

Back to recording...

Nat came by tonight and helped us out on The Lard Brothers' tribute track to the Pet Shop Boys on stylophone. That's her rockin' it. Robin got her to play the stylophone on another tune, backing his triple (yes!) guitar solo. She sang back-up for another tune and did some handclaps. Was quite fun and funny. Thanks, BFF!

Jane will be coming in next week to lay down some vocal tracks while Simon will be lending his massive finger-tapping guitar chops on the said Pet Shop Boys tribute track. Woot!

Alvin popped by to track some stuff for Agilan's drum CD. So we dragged him to do some backing vocals as well. It's great seeing him after such a long while!

Next Monday, Biddy is coming to track another tune. I can't wait! Feeling very pumped right now. Heh.

Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks

Not really familiar with their work but the video is pretty weird.

Slither trailer

This is an old movie. Well, it was released in 2006 and stars Nathon Fillion and the lovely Elizabeth Banks who are both decidedly more famous these days. The director James Gunn is doing the series 'PG Porn' on SpikeTV.com. Absolutely hilarious stuff. His ex-wife Jenna Fischer is in the movie too. She's more well-known for her role in 'The Office'.

'Slither' is one of the best B-movies I've ever seen. If you wanna check it out, catch everything here. It's approved by Max who is a connoisseur of B horror movies. We probably might catch Sam Raimi's latest 'Drag Me To Hell'. I wanna scream like a little girl.

Cool Guys Don't Look At Explosions

From the Andy Samberg hosted MTV Movie Awards. At least, it's funnier than the Sasha Baron Cohen-Bruno stunt though I thought it was quite funny that Eminem went along with it.

10 Things I Love About Me

Chingz sells some jewellery and clothes at her little blog here. While I think some of the necklaces are not bling enough for a hip-hop-non-stop guy like me, some of you peeps might be interested in what she has to offer.
